The challenge

A major retailer needed to address the challenge of a large volume of their Technical Processes being centrally owned with information retained ‘in the heads’ of certain key employees rather than formally documented, creating a risk to the business.  Full materials were not developed and therefore training programmes could only be run by a small pool of subject matter experts.

Our approach

A fresh ‘learner-first’ approach was taken. We began the induction with a strong focus on personal development to enable people to build confidence and empathy skills, including communication, resilience, mindset (growth), focus and determination.

A truly blended onboarding experience was then developed, using a new learning architecture informed by our analysis. The sessions were aligned with the organisation’s core values/behaviours to embed new starters into the heart of their organisation.

The learning experience offered a variety of methods like digital content, classroom sessions , and quizzes to enhance inclusivity/accessibility (i.e. catering to different learning styles, preferences, and needs). This variety created increased engagement and focus; the learners absorbed and retained the information faster and the client experienced a turnaround of more proficient new starters.

Our impact

  • 33% fewer days needed for induction
  • 58% saving YoY compared to previous onboarding costs
  • Learners on this course were 35% more productive (measured by call volume) compared to existing staff
