Key strategies to avoid business disruption

Understand and manage data dependencies across all functions

  • Identify and classify all data provisioning and receipt including whether internal or external, inbound or outbound and the related function
  • Determine relative priority (e.g. Treasury, Risk, Operations and Critical, High, Medium and Low)
  • Prioritize based on disruption impact

Develop a risk-based approach for the program

  • Establish a design authority to document and communicate data changes (e.g. hierarchy and taxonomy code value changes) arising from the migration
  • Provide specific guidance to developers
  • Establish control checkpoints for Critical and High priority data provision and receipt to improve initial delivery quality

   Deploy the right expertise

  • Data provisioning and receipt reflect both technical and business (data) aspects
  • Relevant technical expertise is required to ensure the file format, structure and transfer are correct
  • Analytic and data expertise to ensure the data code values (e.g. hierarchies and taxonomies) and values are correct

Update and refine the operating model

  • Establish / refine the operating model to include SLAs
  • Add / refine data responsibilities including data mastering, data quality and data feed reconciliation
  • Update roles and responsibilities to reflect refined processes
