Building a leading engineering culture

Our client, a top tier European Bank, found its engineers struggling to deliver and lacking motivation due to a culture that tended to work against it rather than for it.

The challenge

Our client, a top tier European Bank, found its engineers struggling to deliver and lacking motivation due to a culture that tended to work against it rather than for it.  We were engaged to create a strong and engaging Engineering Culture, a way of working that permeated not just through the technology organisation but also in the way engineers engaged with business and support functions.

Such a culture was be challenging to build given years of outsourcing engineering work and therefore a lack of strong engineering focus internally.

Our solution

Our consultants worked with the client on a programme structure that would help build the right culture.

To embed this a series of ‘change champions’ were identified who were passionate about the new culture, trained, and them empowered to drive the culture, using aspects of all the workstreams, within their teams.

Our impact

  • A measurable change in the engagement and motivation of engineers, resulting in a higher performing function delivering better business outcomes
  • Successful monthly “Engineering Days”, bring together all of technology to connect, learn and experiment
  • Launch and sustained engagement of strategic Engineering Communities, attracting new members to develop and share best practice
  • A structured learning path from graduate to MD
