Sophie’s experience as a Team Leader Level 3 apprentice

Name: Sophie Beasley

Employer & Apprenticeship: Davies – Team Leader Level 3

Why did you choose this study pathway?

The next stage in my career was to become a people manager. I had already completed my Level 3 Business Administration Apprenticeship with Davies Learning Solutions so I felt that the Team Leader Level 3 was a good place to start. I had done a lot of research on the apprenticeship and the CMI qualification prior to starting to ensure this was right for me and my future career.

How is your learning experience with Davies Learning Solutions?

My experience of learning through Davies has been great. I am supported by a coach for my apprenticeship and I am also given access to a specialist CMI tutor who assists me with my assignments. On top of that I have access to the CMI hub and management direct which is organised by Davies Learning Solutions. I am around half way through my apprenticeship and I have already gained so much knowledge as a first time manager that I put into practice in my everyday role. Since working from home, the transition from face-to-face meetings to online coaching sessions was seamless and my coach is always on hand to help should I need it.

How difficult was it to study whilst working?

Since becoming a manager and taking on more responsibility, I found I had to utilise my time management skills to schedule time with my direct report, undertake my day-to-day job role and study towards my apprenticeship and qualification. I didn’t find it difficult to study, and now, since working from home due to COVID-19, I have been able to complete one of my two assignments and begin working on the second one. My employer has also been great at supporting me whilst I have been on my apprenticeship. I schedule in my on-the-job hours to my week so it is clear when I am completing them. My manager is always there to give me support and answer any questions I may have about management or general queries. I have been exposed to some great training through my employer that has helped me become stronger in my role.

What would you say to someone thinking of doing an apprenticeship?

I would highly recommend an apprenticeship as I feel I have gained valuable skills from both my Business Administration and Team Leader apprenticeships that I will carry with me throughout my whole career.
