Davies adds international commercial and maritime litigation expertise to its legal solutions arm through the acquisition of Shoreside Law

26th March 2024

26th March 2024, London: Davies, the leading specialist professional services and technology business serving insurance, financial services and highly regulated markets, today announced that it has acquired Shoreside Law (“Shoreside Law Ltd”), the commercial and maritime litigation firm, specialising in shipping, commercial insurance and energy disputes for a range of insurers, ship and yacht owners, charterers, NVOCCs (non-vessel operating common carriers), ports, and other international law firms.

Shoreside Law’s specialist team of international lawyers will join Davies’ existing legal solutions business, Keoghs, and will be based out of Davies’ London headquarters. Top 40 law firm, Keoghs, provides claims and legal expertise to insurers, businesses and other suppliers to the insurance sector. The Shoreside team will form part of Davies’ Complex & Specialty business unit, led by Laura Warwick, COO of Complex & Speciality Claims within Davies UK & Ireland.

Existing insurance clients of Davies will now have access to specialists who have cross-border experience representing both domestic and international clients on all aspects of maritime and commercial litigation. With experts based in the UK and Greece, Shoreside Law’s team brings a wealth of experience across a variety of marine and non-marine coverage disputes, including political risks and subrogation claims across the full range of business classes and arbitration of major incidences arising from casualties, insurance policies and shipbuilding contracts.

Since Davies’ acquisition of Keoghs in 2020, numerous insurance clients have benefitted from the additional capability of the enlarged business, including its ability to handle claims from first notification of loss (FNOL) all the way through to complex litigation. In February 2023, Davies announced a new streamlined structure bringing together its UK & Ireland based Claims Solutions and Legal Solutions businesses under CEO, Allison Carr, creating a 3,000+ person team to drive value and streamline operations for its clients.

Over the past 10 years, Davies has consistently delivered strong organic growth alongside a program of carefully targeted M&A that has enabled it to grow revenues more than 25-fold over that period. In the last five years, Davies has executed a strategy of adding new capabilities, investing in technology & transformation, and expanding into new geographic markets, all focused on providing high-value solutions for its 1,500+ clients.

Dan Saulter, Group CEO, Davies commented: “I’m really impressed with the experience of the Shoreside Law team and am looking forward to welcoming our new colleagues to our Complex & Specialty claims division in the UK. The firm has an excellent track record of delivering outstanding results on a range of large, complex, and sensitive issues and I have no doubt the individual talents of the whole team will be invaluable in providing our combined clients with the excellent level of service they expect.”

Peter Mavroghenis, Director, Shoreside Law added: “The team is delighted to be joining Davies & Keoghs at this exciting time. The firm has been growing rapidly across all sectors in recent years and its commitment to providing an excellent service to clients and supporting its colleagues with development and career progression opportunities aligned with our own.”

Stevens & Bolton LLP and RSM UK acted as advisors for Davies. Shoreside Law was advised by Phillips Dempsey and PEM Corporate Finance LLP.
