Hear from some of our clients

We have worked with Davies Learning Solutions (Formerly FWD) for over 5 years. This includes programmes for both our school leaver & graduate intakes each year. DLS are genuine specialists in the insurance sector, & our apprentices really benefit from this via the experience & expertise of their coaches & tutors. We also particularly value the consultative approach their management team bring; always looking for ways to bespoke to our needs & integrate with our own learning interventions, plus looking to adapt & evolve programmes based on feedback from our apprentices. I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending DLS as the leading Insurance apprenticeship training provider.

Sian Carter, Emerging Talent Business Partner, Lloyd's

“Our ‘partnership’ approach ensures that the requirements for end point assessments are clearly laid out to employers and apprentices, with plenty of support and guidance provided to ensure a positive experience and the best chance of a successful outcome. The effectiveness of this approach is demonstrated through Davies’ 95% first time pass rate which puts them among the top performers in our portfolio of 70+ training providers. Regular meetings between us and Davies means that we enjoy a positive relationship built on trust, collaboration and a mutual desire to provide the best possible experience for apprentices and their employers.”

Jake Tween, DSW Head of Apprenticeships

“Having worked closely with Jo over the last 2 years as part of the Davies Learning Solutions apprenticeship programme, I have nothing but positive things to say. Jo is organised and gives clear and concise direction to both apprentices and managers responsible for those apprentices. Whenever explaining a task or process, she provides a detailed explanation of what is expected and she always makes herself available to discuss any issues or concerns. Jo has a passion for what she does and this shines through along with a real desire for the apprentices to succeed.”

Alex Murphy, Manager - Loans & Private Finance Operations, M&G

“Davies Learning Solutions pride themselves on working in true partnerships, we have seen the dedication from the Client Solutions Team to ensure this is the case. They have been flexible and accommodating, whilst guiding and supporting us to achieve our goals. In response to 2020 challenges Davies Learning Solutions switched the programme from face-to-face delivery to remote and successfully re-designed the modules to fit this model.”

Ian Sadler, Towergate

“Based on previous bad experience of apprenticeship providers, Davies Learning Solutions has been a breath of fresh air. They have been fantastic in their approach to communication, updates, enthusiasm and support towards the learners and to myself as a main employer contact. We very much appreciate the inclusive line Davies takes with both learners and their line managers and believe this will be fundamental to the success of the programme.”

Rachael Gamberini, Talent & Development Partner, NHBC

“I can tell that my coach genuinely wants to help me pass my exams and get the most out of the apprenticeship that I can. His enthusiasm and support has helped keep me stay motivated and encouraged throughout my journey so far and given me the determination to aim high and get the best results”

Aimie - Level 3 Insurance Practitioner Apprentice

“We launched our graduate scheme in December 2019 and have been delighted by the support we have had from Davies Learning Solutions. We have been particularly pleased with the quality of their specialist coaches and tutors. The positive feedback from our graduates demonstrated the benefit of integrating the apprenticeship with our existing graduate scheme and has overcome our concerns about its appropriateness for a graduate audience. We are extending this programme to all our graduates in 2020/21.”

David Chesham, Mars

"Brakes have worked with Davies Learning Solutions (formerly FWD Training & Consultancy Ltd) for several years now and have a close partnership regarding the delivery of the Advanced Credit Controller Apprenticeship. Our partnership approach ensures that Davies Learning Solutions understand our business and apprentice needs, leading to a bespoke and beneficial apprenticeship programme. Plenty of support, advice and guidance is provided throughout the programme especially by the assigned Coach to ensure a positive experience and the best chance of a successful outcome. The effectiveness of this approach and delivery is demonstrated through our high success rates. Regular meetings and calls between Brakes and Davies Learning Solutions mean that we enjoy a positive relationship built on trust, partnership and a mutual desire to provide the best possible experience for our apprentices. We work across over 20 training providers providing various apprenticeship programmes and I can honestly say our experiences with Davies Learning Solutions have been great."

Learning Solutions FAQs

  • How do I access funding for learning and development?

Funding is available to Employers who commit to an Apprenticeship Standard with an approved Training Provider, such as Davies Learning Solutions. There are a wealth of Standards to choose from, we provide over 20 but the full list can be found here and each has a ‘funding band’, i.e. the maximum amount of funding to deliver. Once you have decided you can apply to reserve funding.

  • We don’t pay into the levy, can we still access funding?

Yes you can for up to 10 employees at any one time. Apply to reserve funding by following this guide. You will need to contribute up to 5% of the funding depending on the age of your apprentice.

  • Are Apprenticeships for young people?

Not necessarily. Apprenticeships can be used to support the development of existing employees of any age.

  • Is there a minimum salary for apprentices?

The salary of an apprentice is entirely at the Employer’s discretion, so for existing staff, existing salaries would remain in place. Apprentice minimum wages may be relevant for employers recruiting school leavers, but knowledge of local competitive market conditions to attract the right calibre candidate may be more appropriate.

  • What time commitment do I have to make as an Employer?

Every person on an apprenticeship programme needs to be given 20% Off The Job (OTJ) learning time in order to attend their – coaching sessions, revision workshops, assimilate learning and complete related development work. Your apprentice provider will run all aspects of the programme and keep your time commitment to a minimum, but we would strongly advise regular catch-ups & reviews between coach, line manager and apprentice to check progress & align objectives.

  • How do I choose a reputable Training Provider?

Every Apprenticeship provider is rated by OFSTED. Also look for a provider that carries the ‘Top 50 Training Provider’ award as voted for by the Rate My Apprenticeship scheme. This is based on feedback from real apprentices. Look for a provider who is a specialist in the area you want to focus on (For example Davies Learning Solutions is specialist in Insurance, Financial Services and Business Solutions) and also look for recommendations via the Government website or The Apprenticeship Directory.

  • Will the training be done at my place of work?

Currently, in response to COVID-19 all our apprenticeships are being delivered virtually. These include online group classrooms and 1:1 coaching sessions, mostly using Teams or Zoom. We hope to return to some face-to-face delivery in early 2021.

  • Can you help me find an Apprentice?

If you are looking to hire an Apprentice we can help with a free recruitment service whereby your advert will be placed on the Government website. We will support your recruitment by pre-screening applications and the organising interviews, or deliver a more advanced Academy service – learn more here.
